COPSON, Thomas William. 755359 Sergeant, No.9 Sqn.
L.G. 23/9/1941. Sorties 31, Flying hours 183. Air Observer. Air2/8900.
This N.C.O. has carried out 13 operational missions with this squadron, his last five as Navigator/Captain of aircraft. Though he has no outstanding acts of meritorigus service to his credit, he has done his job at all times in an exemplary manner, often under most difficult conditions during the winter and under considerable opposition fro the enemy. It is considered that his efforts and fine record of results should be recognised by the award of the Distinguished Flying Medal.
17th July, 1941.
Remarks by Station Commander.
A splendid type of Sergeant Observer, rather older than most being 31. Always cheerful and extraordinarily steady under fire, he instils great confidence. Of the 31 operational flights that this N.C.O. has done, one was to Venicc, one to Bordeaux and two to Berlin. He won the admiration and respect of the whole squadron and 1 strongly recommend him for the award of the Distinguished Flying Medal.
Remarks by A.O.C.
I concur in the Unit Commander's recommendation and consider this N.C.O.'s long record of successful operational activities entitle him to special recognition. UK P&P (without frame) Group 1 (£16+VAT for the first lot and £2+VAT for subsequent lots
